Shallot Sambar


Toordal/kandi pappu - 1 cup
shallots/Sambar onion - 10
Lemon juice-3tsp
Sambar powder-2 tsp
Tamarind pulp-2 tsp
Chilli powder- 1tsp
Turmeric - pinch
coriander leaves

For seasoning
Urad dal-1tsp
chana dal-1tsp
mustard seeds -1tsp
Garlic pods-4
curry leaves

Method of preparation

1)Pressure cook the toor dal for 3 whistles.Let it cool and make to a smooth paste in blender.
2)Heat 1tsp of oil in a pan add onions,tomato and cook for 5 minutes.Add some water and bring to boil.
3)Add the toor dal paste,salt,sambar powder,turmeric,tamarind pulp,red chilli powder.Cook for another 10 min.
4)Heat a tsp of oil in other pan and do the seasoning with mustard seeds,urad dal,chana dal,turmeric,garlic pods,curry leaves.
5)Turn off the heat and add the lemon juice.Garnish with coriander leaves.
6)Serve it with hot rice,idli,dosa or vada.
